Become a Substitute Teacher
- Submit your application online during the open application window. (The application will be available for approximately 3 weeks starting August 13th, 2018 and then again for another 3 weeks starting January 7th, 2019.)
- Schedule & complete an interview. You will be notified by email to schedule an interview. Please have the following items available at the time of your interview: valid driver's license, Social Security card, copy of high school transcript or GED (not required for certified teachers), teacher's certificate (if a certified teacher).
- Complete necessary paperwork. After the interview you will receive the appropriate paperwork for employment.
- Attend a substitute training. (an interview and completed paperwork are required before attending the training) After the training you will be required to be fingerprinted for a criminal background check. There is a $47-$50 fee that will have to be paid by the applicant to be fingerprinted. Two training sessions will be held during the year and will be scheduled after each application window closes.

If you have substituted with DISD and have not attended the required emergency training you may call (806) 922-4432 or email (firstname.lastname@example.org) Chief Larry Payne at the high school to set up an individual emergency training.
