The National Blue Ribbon Schools Program has been recognizing great American schools since 1982. They select public and private elementary, middle, and high schools based on their overall academic excellence or their progress in closing achievement gaps among student subgroups. Every year the U. S. Department of Education seeks out and celebrates great American schools, schools demonstrating that all students can achieve to high levels. This year, our very own Sunset Elementary, under the leadership of Caynon Strickland and Carolina Hernandez was recognized as one of the 2023 National Blue Ribbons Schools.
"We are incredibly proud of Sunset Elementary," said Dumas ISD Superintendent Monty Hysinger. "The campus administration and teachers have done an outstanding job focusing on student success. The supportive learning environment they have created at Sunset Elementary is exceptionally favorable for our students."
