Honor Choir Performing at Greater Southwest Music Festival
SATURDAY - Student Council - Day of Caring

Dear Parents:
The Dumas Intermediate Honor choir has been entered to perform at the Greater
Southwest Music Festival on Friday, May 2nd. The performance is at the Globe News Center for the Performing Arts in downtown Amarillo. We will perform three songs for three judges, and parents are welcome to come to hear this performance.
Students will come to school as normal, eat breakfast, then check in with their 2 nd period teacher for attendance. After they have done so, they will report to the choir room. We will leave the school at 8:30 AM and go to the GNC to warm up, and then perform on stage. We will stay and listen to a few other choirs, including a special performance of the Amarillo College Concert and Jazz Choirs and the Amarillo Master Chorale. This is a great opportunity for the choir to grow through performance and contest.
Lunch will be at Mr. Gatti’s. Students may bring money for the game room. We will
return before the end of 6 th period.

Parents and families of the Dumas Intermediate Choir Program,
The combined Choir program will be performing at the Dumas Music Festival. All students are required to attend. This performance will go in the gradebook as 3 assessment grades, meaning that an unexcused absence from the concert will be a failing grade on report cards. Please keep this note and write the information on your calendar.
The Dumas Music Festival is on Saturday, April 12 th . Students who need a ride from Cactus will ride a bus from old Cactus Elementary. All students must wear their Choir t-shirt (tucked in), nice jeans, and appropriate shoes (absolutely no crocs, flip flops, or Uggs are allowed). Shoes should be like those acceptable for PE. If a student is not in uniform, they will not perform with us, and will receive a bad grade.
All students must be at Dumas High School Music Building no later than 9:50 AM in the Band room. Students must check in as soon as they arrive to be counted present. DO NOT BE LATE. There will be sign-in sheets separated by class period which the student will write their name for attendance. No cell phones will be allowed in the warm-up room or on stage. Cell phones should be left at home or with a parent, as there will not be a secure location for storage. We will have a limited time to warm up and sing through our music before the choir is
escorted to the stage to perform.
Parents are allowed to sit in the audience and listen to the performance. This is a
contest where 3 judges are evaluating the Choir on its performance, and so it is appropriate to turn off all cell phones and noise-making devices during the performance. Any young children that may be a distraction or cause noise may wait in the hallway outside the auditorium, so that the hard work we have done is not ruined by disruptive behavior. After the choir has performed and finished the Sight Reading, they will be escorted out to the front of the High School. Once we are finished, students are free to go home.
This is our chance to show how hard these singers have worked this year and bring back a trophy to show off the skills and dedication of the Choir program. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at kip.white@dumasisd.org and I will be happy to get back with you.
